Our Glass Installation and Replacement Process

Glass installation requires precision and a thorough understanding of materials required. To ensure your total satisfaction once the job is completed, we take the time to ask the right questions prior to installation such as:

  • Where are you located?
  • Do you wish to replace a window or a door
  • Do you require clear or tinted glass?
  • What is the approximate size of the frame to be fitted?
  • Is it a fixed door or window or a slider?
  • What day and time is convenient for an onsite measurement and quote?

Frequently Asked Questions

For most standard window or door pane replacements, the actual installation is usually done within an hour or two once we’re onsite. The total timeline from your initial call to job completion really depends on the glass type needed, although most standard float glass we can turn around the same day. Specialty glass like toughened safety glass will need to be cut to size then toughened, so we’d typically schedule that within a week or two from site measure. We’ll always give you a realistic time frame when we book in your job.

Not at all, and no job is too small for us. A single cracked pane in a bathroom or bedroom is just as important to us as a large commercial job. We know a broken window, however small, can compromise your home’s security, insulation, and peace of mind, so we’re happy to come out for even a single replacement.

A few things come into play. The main ones are the size of the pane, the type of glass needed (standard float glass is the most affordable, toughened and laminated safety glass cost a little more), the thickness required, and the accessibility of the window. A ground-floor window is straight forward; something in an awkward spot or at height takes more time and we would recommend an onsite inspection to be able to provide you with a free quote.

Honestly, you don’t need to figure that out yourself as that’s our job! Australian building codes actually specify where safety glass must be used, such as in shower screens, low-level windows, pool fencing, and areas near doors. When we come out for your measure and quote, we’ll assess the location and use of the glass and recommend the correct type.

This is something we get asked a lot and we completely understand the concern. The short answer is no as our team is highly experienced at glass matching. We take care to match the thickness, tint level, and finish of your existing glass so the result is seamless. If you’re replacing one pane in a multi-pane window, you genuinely won’t be able to tell the difference once we’re done.

It’s definitely worth considering, especially up here in Queensland where the sun is no joke! If you’re replacing a pane in a west or north-facing room that gets hammered by afternoon sun, it can be a great opportunity to upgrade to a tinted or Low-E (low-emissivity) glass that reduces heat transfer and UV penetration. It won’t change the price dramatically compared to standard glass, and it can make a noticeable difference to comfort and energy costs. Ask us about it when you call and we’re happy to walk you through the options.

In many cases, yes! Accidental breakage and storm damage are commonly covered events under home and contents insurance policies. We’re experienced working with insurance claims and can invoice your insurance company directly for emergency repair and replacement work. We’d suggest contacting your insurer first to check your policy, and we’re happy to provide all the documentation and itemised quotes they need to process your claim.
